THE BRIDGE TO US
ABOUT THE BRIDGE TO US
My name is Matthew Wooton, and I am the Founder of The Bridge to US.
Since the Spring of 2021, I have been volunteering with an organization that helps Korean adoptees connect to their roots, through language lessons and tours of Korea. I even had the opportunity to translate and interpret their returns back to Korea.
Hearing their stories, I found that a common catalyst for their journeys to reconnect were from having children of their own. As a half-Korean, I felt I was uniquely suited to help them, because of my own experiences of confusion about my identity, never fitting in with either side of my family. I found a mission in helping their children, many of whom wanted opportunities to connect to their parents’ culture but never were able to receive them.
The Bridge to US’s mission is to teach language and culture to the children of foreign adoptees. Though many resources exist online to learn language, lessons on culture, and simply how it is to live as a native of that country, are hard to come by. Volunteers of The Bridge to US will be guiding hands to the journey of the families of foreign adoptees.
